March Spring Break with Abuelos

In the middle of March Tiago had a week off of school for Spring Break, so we invited Hyrum's parents to come visit.  Hyrum also was able to take 4 days off work. 

We spent Saturday and Sunday mostly hanging out around the house.  We took a trip to Target, where Abuela spoiled the kids with some toys.  Coincidentally, my dad had a layover in Dallas Sunday afternoon, so he showed up in time for lunch and stayed until dinner time.  The kids loved hearing him sing the alphabet song wrong (they thought he just didn't know it) and reading books. 

On Monday Hyrum, his parents, and the kids went to the Perot Museum downtown.  (That's as many adult tickets as we could get for free.. so I volunteered to stay home. ha) 

We all went to eat lunch (Tuesday maybe?) at a Colombian restaurant.  Mila heard music playing and asked Hyrum to dance with her.  We ate a ton of empanadas and fruit milkshakes.  I was just disappointed because it was perfect soup weather, but they weren't currently serving ajiaco, my favorite soup from Colombia.

Other fun things we did, that I don't have pictures of...  We all went to get ice cream at Braums.  We went to the Galleria Mall to let the kids play in their kid area (we had terrible weather that week, so playing outdoors was very limited).  Hyrum took his parents downtown on Wednesday to see where he worked, and for them to see the 6th Floor Museum where Kennedy was shot.  After, they visited Fort Worth to eat and see the stockyards.  Hyrum's mom probably looked at picture books with the kids half a dozen times, and they showed her all their toys.  I taught Oscar the joy of ordering off Amazon.  When the sun came out, Tiago played baseball outside with Hyrum's dad for quite a while. 

Thursday they flew back to Utah.  Tiago's teacher had given him an assignment to make a book of what he did during spring break.  (They had a frog that they could bring places.)  It was so fun to watch him document the fun week we'd had through his art-- he drew outer-space things to represent the Perot Museum, and the logo he remembered from the ice cream store.  We printed a few pictures for him to include, too.  Then on Monday he got to tell his class about the fun adventures.
