October Update - Part II

I finally went through (most of) my October pictures, so I can write about the rest of the month.

We bought Tiago an amber teething necklace last time I thought he was teething.  Turns out, he wasn't.  He was just in a stage of deciding he didn't want two naps.  Hyrum was reluctant to let his son wear a necklace, but we gave it a try, and it usually got ripped off within minutes, anyway.

Hyrum gets to bathe Tiago every night, and put him to bed.  It might be one of my favorite times of the night.  When my choice is between family time and free time, there's no bad option.

This is the age of discovery.  One morning Hyrum found Tiago trying to eat the food coloring.  Caught red blue handed (and mouthed).

Another day instead of food coloring it was soy sauce, and he had actually started to drink it.  I can't tell if I see remorse on his face in the picture on the right?  I doubt it.

Hyrum took a bunch of pictures of Tiago at the temple when we stopped by on the way to Berlin.  Fall here was nice while it lasted, but I feel like the leaves fell more quickly this year.

Now jumping back to the beginning of the month... we celebrated Hyrum's 33 birthday on October 2.  I don't know why I agreed to it, but I told him I'd make Bandeja Paisa... a classic Colombian dish that has more elements than I can count on two hands.  I made it the first year we were married and after spending the entire weekend searching through grocery stores and sweating over the hot stove I said, "never again!" so I don't know what I was thinking.  But Hyrum was happy.

Here's the proof on the left.  I decided it was definitely not a Colombian who invented one-dish  meals.  In addition to the stuff I could make in advance, I had all four burners going for the hour before we ate.  And still there were two things I forgot to make.  But that bothered me less than it might have 4 years ago.

And I forgot to buy birthday candles, so he blew out our Yankee Candle.

Santiago making another mess, this time with peanut butter, which he likes.

One weekend we drove to the Speinshart Monastery which is within an hour.  It was built in the late 1600's and is still functioning today.

These pants have been around for a while, and they're so cute on him in a ridiculous kind of way.  What's not to love about rainbow stripes on tight stretchy pants... on a baby?

Our town had it's annual Kirwa festival.  We showed up too late to see them putting up this tree-pole, but the celebration (ie: drinking) was still going on.  Also, our new stroller arrived.  Tiago has enjoyed playing with it, and taken a few test runs around the apartment, but I like our old stroller so much that this will probably not get used until March.

Traditions are hard to come by, especially since it feels like every holiday is different (between trainings, deployments, and travel.)  But pizza and donuts on Halloween is a tradition I can carry on.  Especially if the crust is stuffed with cheese.  During the day we went to a Halloween party at Hyrum's office, and after Tiago went to bed we watched Hocus Pocus.
