Why didn't I go? Because the thought of waking up Tiago at 3:30 in the morning for a flight and full day's adventures, and trying to keep him entertained and happy while he was sleep deprived and hot... it sounds miserable!! For everyone involved. So I opted to stay back at the hotel (and beach!) and relax. No regrets for me!
But Hyrum got to enjoy it. He woke up really early, drove to the airport, flew over to the mainland, and spent a day seeing the Acropolis AND multiple soccer stadiums. (That would be another reason I didn't go. Not my version of fun.) Since I wasn't there, this is mostly pictures.
The first stadium he visited was Panathinaikos, where one of Greece's popular clubs plays. He liked it because it was the same color as his favorite Colombian team.
Since there was a bit of time left, he visited the Olympic Stadium, where several events were held in 2000. Greece's economic hardships were evident in the fact that the stadium they put so much into isn't maintained at all. It was rusty and full of weeds and trash. Sad.
A few more sights around town before he headed back to the airport: changing of the guard, a Greek protest downtown, and a monastery.
